Coronation Celebration – Afternoon Tea at the Village Hall, 7th May 2023
Thanks to everybody for supporting the special afternoon tea event at the Village Hall on the day after the Coronation of King Charles III. There was a wonderful response from people to provide cakes, scones and biscuits and an equally good response to make sure that they were appreciated by those who attended! Thanks to Emma and Chris Smith for decorating the hall and their usual efficient service behind the bar. Barbara Jarman, Natasha Wainwright and Di Burland worked throughout the afternoon providing refreshments and organising the layout of the hall. Barbara arranged for the delivery of the souvenir money boxes, which were donated jointly by Farnham Parish Council and Uttlesford District Council. She also placed with a lucky coin in them for all children in the village who were of primary school age or under. Many were collected on the day but she will be delivering those that were not collected over the next few weeks. If you think that you have been missed out, please contact Barbara at milltoft@aic.co.uk as soon as possible.
A highlight of the afternoon was the loyal toast to the King, led by Charles Humphreys who also kindly donated the bottles of ‘Three Squirrels’ for the toast. It was estimated that there were 80 – 100 people present, including children, at the time of the toast. Following the toast, a special cake was cut and passed around the hall. Grateful thanks to Chris Smith who made and decorated the delicious cake and ensured that it reflected the celebratory spirit of the day! A very pleasant and relaxing sunny afternoon which allowed full use of the village hall and grounds. Thank-you to everyone who helped during the afternoon and those who helped clearing up; a special mention for Rob Hitchman for the heavy lifting record to tables and chairs!
