This is a yearly event organised by the Recreation Ground Committee (a committee of the Parish Council). It started as an idea of, at the time, Caroline Tupman. She suggested a way of getting the village residents together for a short session of carol singing at the Village Hall or in St Mary’s Church. It has been supported for many years now, even during the Covid period when it was held in the open at the church. The Recreation Committee offers complimentary mulled wine, hot chocolate and warm nibbles such as mini pizzas, sausage rolls and mince pies. The resident vicar presides over the event (in 2023 it was the Rev. Dr. Colin Fairchild). Father Christmas makes a ‘surprise’ visit at the end of the Carols with gifts for all children who are present. Donations are appreciated an go towards maintenance of the area and routine clearning. The event always takes place on Christmas Eve at 5pm.
